Dr. Lauren Gambill, is a Pediatric Hospitalist and Associate Professor of pediatrics. She is a leader in advocacy education as well as program director for the PHM Fellowship.
Dr. Gambill has worked extensively on state-level policy issues that impact children. She has provided expert testimony to the Texas Legislature eighteen times (and counting) and has contributed to evidence-based policy on a variety of topics, including immigration, mental health, healthcare funding, food insecurity, LGBTQiA rights, vaccines, lead in water, DEI, and many more.
Dr. Gambill works to bring awareness of pediatric policy issues to a broader audience and has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, Slate, HuffPost, Buzzfeed, Fox News, and ABC News. Dr. Gambill is also a writer with opinion pieces published by US News and World Report, the Austin Chronicle, Sacramento Bee, Harvard Public Health Magazine, Texas Monthly, and many others.
As an educator, she focuses on empowering physicians and physicians-in-training to engage in advocacy and policy that impacts patients’ lives far beyond the exam room. She holds several state and national leadership positions including Co-Program Director for the Academic Pediatric Association Health Policy Scholars Program. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Hospital Medicine Advocacy Task Force. She is co-chair of the Executive Legislative Committee of the Texas Pediatric Society and co-director of the Texas Educators in Advocacy & Community Health (TEACH TX) Collaborative.
She lives in Austin, Texas, with her three kids and husband.
