The American Immigration Council just published a new fact sheet: “Immigration Detention in the United States by Agency“. This resource breaks down the differences between CBP, ICE (adult and family facilities as well as Alternative to Detention programs), ORR (temporary/influx vs. permanent shelters), and Marshals custody. Each section includes subsections on who runs the facilities, who is detained, the length of detention, conditions, and access to counsel.
We are hoping this resource can be used by both individuals and organizations who would like to add their voice to advocacy on detention issues but are unclear on the differences between the different types of facilities. Please share with anyone you think may find it useful!
