Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III is a third-generation civil and human rights advocate and senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. His ministry blends Black theology with social justice, addressing mass incarceration, environmental justice, and economic inequality. A Morehouse College honors graduate, Dr. Moss earned a Master of Divinity from Yale and a Doctor of Ministry from Chicago Theological Seminary. His books include Dancing in the Darkness and Blue Note Preaching in a Post-Soul World, based on his Lyman Beecher lectures at Yale.
Dr. Moss is the founder of Unashamed Media Group, a faith-rooted production company behind the award-winning film Otis’ Dream. He also leads Imani Village, a transformative development project in Chicago’s Pullman community. Named one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English-speaking world by Baylor University, he now serves as Professor of Homiletics at Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology.
Influenced by Howard Thurman, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Hip-Hop, Dr. Moss is known for his powerful, intergenerational preaching. He is married to Monica Brown Moss, and they have two children, Elijah and Makayla.
