SAINT PAUL, MN—In the wake of the devastating shooting that occurred on Wednesday at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Children’s Defense Fund–Minnesota State Director Alisha Porter has issued the following statement:
“Our staff at Children’s Defense Fund–Minnesota is heartbroken by the tragic events that unfolded Wednesday on the grounds of Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis.
“Our children deserve laws that protect them from guns.
“All children and young people in our state deserve the opportunity to live in communities where they can play freely in parks, walk safely to bus stops, and learn in schools as sanctuaries. Instead, this week, we witnessed gun violence rob two Minnesota children of their lives and their futures as they prayed during mass. Seventeen more children and staff now carry the lasting impact of that same violence, their lives forever changed.
“As we continue to pray for those directly impacted by the Annunciation shooting, we DEMAND America’s leaders finally act to break the ongoing cycle of violence that threatens our classrooms, our places of worship, and our communities.
“Our children are waiting for our response.
“Our children are waiting for our action.
“Our children are waiting for our change.”
