WASHINGTON, DC—On Friday, June 27, 2025, the Supreme Court of the United States issued a 6-3 ruling preventing federal judges from issuing nationwide injunctions against federal policies. The ruling comes after dozens of federal judges’ blocking of parts of the February executive order denying citizenship to children born in the U.S. to unauthorized immigrants.

Children’s Defense Fund issued the following statement:

“While we continue to review the court’s decision, CDF remains steadfast in pursuit of a reality where all children in this nation thrive. The implications of ending, or even threatening, birthright citizenship are far-reaching and serious. Denying the constitutional right to citizenship would harm children, families, and communities throughout the United States, weakening the moral and social fabric of our nation.

“We stand with young people trying to make sense of this decision and what it means for their day-to-day lives. And we will continue working to make real our vision of dignity, hope, and joy for all of America’s children and youth.”
