WASHINGTON, DC— Children’s Defense Fund President Marian Wright Edelman released the following statement of support in response to Rep. Scott’s (D-VA) amendment for the America’s Affordable Health Choices Act, H.R. 3200 adopted by the House Education and Labor Committee.

“Rep. Bobby Scott’s crucial amendment to the America’s Affordable Health Choices Act, H.R. 3200 will guarantee all children in the Exchange access to all medically necessary health and mental health services that are essential to their sound development.  All children need a benefit package that addresses and supports their unique health needs.  I urge all members of the House of Representatives to ensure this critically important child health reform is in the final House bill and the health reform package.  Children must be better – not worse off – under health reform.  Children and child advocates across this nation have a great champion in Rep. Bobby Scott. We thank him for taking a crucial step to ensure all children a healthy start and future.”
