Magdalena Tsiongas is the Policy Manager at Council for Court Excellence (CCE), a D.C. Based non-profit whose mission is to bring people together to conduct research, educate, and advocate to make D.C.’s unique legal systems more just, equitable, and accountable to the community. Their recently released report, Committed Youth Awaiting Placement in the D.C. Youth Services Center, reveals alarming conditions and systemic delays that leave D.C. youth in extended confinement while awaiting appropriate placement by the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS). Magdalena comes to policy work after working in community schools and restorative justice, and continues her work as an organizer addressing extreme sentences as the founder of the Maryland Second Look Coalition.
