Emily Gardner is the Communications Director for the Children’s Defense Fund, where she leads the organization’s efforts to engage the press, partners and the public in our work to make America a better place to be a child. Before coming to CDF, Emily was a Vice President at Spitfire, a communications and campaign strategy firm that partners with mission-driven organizations and foundations to spark change. At Spitfire, Emily provided strategic counsel on branding and messaging, media outreach, digital communications, storytelling, and campaign strategy to organizations like the Center for Community Change, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, and Color Of Change and major philanthropic institutions including the Packard Foundation and the Surdna Foundation. Emily also worked at the SEED Foundation, which operates the nation’s first and only network of public, college-preparatory boarding schools for students in underserved communities. Emily received a B.A. in Political Science from American University.
