Children’s Defense Fund Statement on Failure of House Repeal of ACA

The Children’s Defense Fund is deeply grateful for today’s huge victory for 37 million low-income children and children with disabilities, their parents and millions of other vulnerable adults. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) repeal bill thankfully lacked enough votes to destroy Medicaid and the essential health benefits in the ACA. The repeal bill utterly failed the first test of medicine to “Do No Harm.”

America’s children can go to bed tonight knowing they can rely on the ACA, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program to get a healthy start in life.  We will re-double our efforts to ensure every child in America has the health coverage they need to thrive, strive and succeed in strengthening our great nation and continue to advocate against harmful policies like those averted today. This is a day for rejoicing and counting our health care blessings.
