SEASONED ADVOCATE AND EXPERT TO LEAD CHILDREN’S DEFENSE FUND POLICY TEAM

WASHINGTON, DC – The Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) announced today the appointment of Rhoda Schulzinger, long-time child advocate, to the position of Deputy Vice President of Policy. She will lead CDF’s extensive Policy Department and serve as the primary liaison with other organizations and elected officials.

“We are delighted to have Rhoda lead our policy team at CDF and further an agenda that will make children a priority,” said Marjorie Newman-Williams, CDF Chief Operating Officer. “Rhoda’s diverse and strong background will be crucial in helping CDF effectively advocate to ensure the proper steps are taken to improve the lives of all children in America.”

As Deputy Vice President of Policy, Ms. Schulzinger plays a leading role in formulating and implementing CDF’s policy agenda. She oversees the research and analysis that supports CDF’s strategic plan as well as the work of the poverty, child health, child welfare and mental health, early childhood development and education, and the Cradle to Prison Pipeline® Campaign teams. Ms. Schulzinger is also the key liaison to other advocacy organizations and elected officials.

Prior to joining CDF, Ms. Schulzinger managed a multi-million dollar federal grant for the Association of University Centers on Disabilities, developing a multi-year initiative to provide expertise for state disability agencies. She also spent nearly ten years conducting research and policy analysis on a wide variety of issues affecting families and their children as the principal of Family Policy Associates. Ms. Schulzinger has served as senior staff attorney for a number of organizations including, the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, National Legal Aid and Defender Association, and Center for Law and Social Policy, and as professional staff at Legal Services Corporation. Ms. Schulzinger received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a J.D. from Antioch School of Law.
