WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Children’s Defense Fund President Marian Wright Edelman released the following statement regarding Secretary of Health and Human Services-designate Tom Daschle’s upcoming Senate confirmation hearing:

“Secretary-designate Tom Daschle is a strong nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, and I can think of no better candidate to address the litany of challenges facing our nation’s health care system. Secretary-designate Daschle was a champion for children in the Senate, and his voting record illustrates his longstanding advocacy for America’s working families. In this economic environment, health reform, including real health care reform for children, is a crucial part of our country’s economic recovery. I know Secretary-designate Daschle understands that every step we take to improve the lives of children and working families will strengthen both our economy and our future.”
