Children’s Defense Fund—Louisiana Annual Cradle to Prison Pipeline Summit

October 16, 2012 - October 18, 2012

Catholic Life Center, 1800 South Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

The Children’s Defense Fund’s Louisiana office is hosting its annual Cradle to Prison Pipeline® Campaign Summit for leading child advocates, clergy leaders, youth activists, social workers, parents and the community on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 16-17 (summit will begin Tuesday at 11:30am) at the Catholic Life Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Thursday, October 18, 2012 at McKinley High School. Through cutting edge plenary sessions and compelling workshops, the summit will focus on the latest research, best practices, community building models, and youth empowerment strategies to close the gap between what we know works and what we actually do for our most vulnerable—children and the poor. Louisiana’s top experts, leading practitioners, and most committed activists will help shape a state conversation on economic inequity and catalyze systematic action for children and the poor in 2012 and beyond as CDF continues the critical work of helping to build a transforming movement to change America’s priorities and create a just playing field for every child to survive and thrive. Key issues to be discussed within the sessions and workshops are: Health Care (Mental Health); Education; Zero Tolerance Discipline Policies in Schools; and Improving Educational Outcomes for African American Children, specifically “Black Males.”
