    2013 Beat the Odds® Awards in Houston
    On June 4, 2013 CDF-Texas will celebrate its 14th annual Beat the Odds awards in Houston. The event will honor the extraordinary achievements of five high school seniors who have overcome tremendous challenges in life to achieve academic success and demonstrate leadership.

    ETS-CDF Achievement Gap Symposium
    During the 2013 symposium, policymakers, practitioners and advocates will focus on the latest research, strategies and college- and career-readiness models aimed at creating high schools where opportunities for Black males prevail. The purpose is to highlight the unique challenges facing these young men and to examine the most effective practices schools and communities should adopt in order to help close achievement gaps as well as foster college and career success.

    19th Annual Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry
    The Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry provides five days of spiritual renewal, continuing education, inter-generational movement-building workshops, and networking as Christians from across the denominational spectrum explore how their Christian faith calls them into ministries of child advocacy and guides, shapes, and sustains them in their work with and for children.

    Children’s Defense Fund – Minnesota Beat the Odds® Event
    The Children’s Defense Fund – Minnesota (CDF-MN) will hold our annual Beat the Odds® event on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. CDF’s Minnesota office will award scholarships to four high school seniors from Minneapolis and St. Paul who have overcome tremendous adversity, demonstrated academic excellence and have given back to their communities.     March on Washington to Protect Children, Not Guns
    Join CDF and a grassroots group of concerned mothers, grandmothers, brothers, sisters, and children of all ages for a march to demand that Congress protect children, not guns. Please plan to meet us at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday at the Children’s Defense Fund office at 25 E St. NW in Washington, D.C. Our office is a few blocks from Union Station. From there we will proceed to meet the larger group marching at 10:30 a.m. at the Capital Reflecting Pool on 3rd St. NW. The march will then progress down Constitution Ave., ending in a rally with speeches and music at the Washington Monument NE quadrant.     Children’s Defense Fund – New York Beat the Odds® Event
    The Children’s Defense Fund – New York (CDF-NY) will hold our annual Beat the Odds® event on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the New York Athletic Club located at 180 Central Park South in New York City from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. CDF’s New York Office will award five high school seniors who have overcome tremendous adversity, demonstrated academic excellence and have given back to their communities.

    On November 16, 2012, CDF-Texas will celebrate its second annual Beat the Odds awards in Dallas at the Fairmont Dallas Hotel. The luncheon recognizes the achievements of five outstanding high school seniors who will each receive college scholarships.
