    Children’s Defense Fund – Texas Beat the Odds® Event
    The Children’s Defense Fund – Texas (CDF-TX) will hold a very special 15th Anniversary Beat the Odds® awards luncheon on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown Houston located at 1600 Lamar Street from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. CDF-TX will celebrate five extraordinary high school seniors who have overcome tremendous adversity, demonstrated academic excellence and have given back to their communities as well as recognize a number of community Champions of Children. Since 1999, CDF-TX has awarded college scholarships to more than 125 outstanding youths to help further their education and encourage and support them along the leadership ladder to success.     The “Advancing Success for Black Men in College” symposium is devoted to the challenges and opportunities facing young Black men — between the ages of 18–24 — as they consider, enter and navigate postsecondary education in pursuit of a college degree.

    20th Annual Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry
    The Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry provides five days of spiritual renewal, continuing education, inter-generational movement-building workshops, and networking as Christians from across the denominational spectrum explore how their faith calls them into ministries of child advocacy and guides, shapes, and sustains them in their work with and for children.

    National Observance of Children's Sabbaths® Weekend
    The National Observance of Children's Sabbaths weekend unites thousands of religious communities across the nation in celebrating our children. This annual, multi-faith holiday provides the opportunity for communities of faith to strengthen existing efforts for children, discover new opportunities, and respond to the Divine mandate to nurture, protect, and advocate for all children.

    Askwith Forum - Leveling the Playing Field for Children: Celebrating 40 Years of the Children's Defense Fund
    We invite you to a special event on the future of child and family policy in America featuring Governor Deval Patrick and Marian Wright Edelman. The Askwith Forum at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education (Longfellow Hall) will discuss an important new Harvard Education Press book, Improving the Odds for America’s Children: Future Directions for Policy and Practice. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a contributor to the two-volume 1973-1974 Harvard Educational Review as a young CDF staff attorney at our beginning on Harvard’s campus four decades ago, says of the new book: “This important collection of ideas about how to improve the odds for America’s children should be required reading for policy makers across the country.”

    Children's Defense Fund - New York Beat the Odds® Event
    On Wednesday, March 12, 2014 CDF-NY will honor five NYC high school seniors at the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) -NY Beat the Odds® (BTO) Gala. The BTO celebration will be held at The Pierre in New York City. The reception is at 6:00 PM, followed by dinner and program at 7:00 PM, with dessert party to follow.

    Children’s Defense Fund – Minnesota Beat the Odds® Event
    The Children’s Defense Fund – Minnesota (CDF-MN) will hold our annual Beat the Odds® event on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. CDF’s Minnesota office will award scholarships to four high school seniors from the Minneapolis and St. Paul metropolitan area who have overcome tremendous adversity, demonstrated academic excellence and have given back to their communities.

CDF-Ohio will honor five extraordinary Ohio high school students who have overcome tremendous adversity in life to achieve academic excellence, demonstrate leadership in their communities, and continue their education.     Beating Swords Into Plowshares: Ending the Violence of Guns and Child Poverty
    CDF is honored to join the National Cathedral for the National Observance of Children's Sabbath, calling for an end to the violence and poverty that takes lives on a daily basis in our homes, workplaces and city streets. The statistics for children in particular are grave. A child or teen is killed or injured by guns every 30 minutes in our nation, and guns are the second leading cause of death among children and teens ages 1-19; only motor vehicle accidents kill more children and teens every year.

    WASHINGTON, DC – On Monday, September 30, 2013, the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) will host its 40th Anniversary Celebration at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. At the event, CDF will honor former Secretary of State and Children’s Defense Fund Alumna Hillary Rodham Clinton for her dedication and contributions to child advocacy.

    ETS-CDF Achievement Gap Symposium
    During the 2013 symposium, policymakers, practitioners and advocates will focus on the latest research, strategies and college- and career-readiness models aimed at creating high schools where opportunities for Black males prevail. The purpose is to highlight the unique challenges facing these young men and to examine the most effective practices schools and communities should adopt in order to help close achievement gaps as well as foster college and career success.
