In the last years of his life, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., warned against the triple dangers of materialism, militarism, and racism and called on us as a nation and as a people of faith to respond. Forty years after his death, Dr. King's clarion call still waits for our answer in word and deed.
How will we respond to the urgent national crises at the intersection of poverty and race that puts so many of our young men on a dead-end path to prison? Join clergy, seminarians, Christian educators, young adult leaders, and other faith-based advocates for children at CDF Haley Farm in Clinton, Tennessee, for five days of spiritual renewal, networking, movement building workshops, and continuing education about the threats to our children so that we can finally transform our nation to embody God's justice and realize our dreams for our children. It is time to come together boldly to do a new thing to bring the peace and justice of which Dr. King spoke to our children and our nation. Will you join us? The 14th Annual Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for What better place to renew our spirits, refocus our vision, and revive the movement for children than CDF's Haley Farm? Once home to the late Roots author Alex Haley, CDF Haley Farm is the spiritual home of the children's movement. You'll feel the spirit of this special place as soon as you enter the gates and glimpse the gentle green fields dotted with rustic buildings and graced by the Langston Hughes Library and the interfaith Riggio-Lynch Chapel designed by Maya Lin. On the porch of the Lodge, pull up a rocking chair bearing the name of one of the many heroes of the movement, and get to know other participants who share your passion for justice. Whether it is your first visit or one of many, you will be greeted with the words, "Welcome Home," and we trust that you will find in this place a sense of home and family among kindred spirits who like you are working to bring joy and justice to the lives of children, who won't quit until we realize God's vision of justice for all of our children. The Joshua & Deborah Generation Young adult leaders (ages 18-25) are invited to register for the new Joshua & Deborah Generation track within the Proctor Institute. The Joshua & Deborah track affirms the important role that the newest generation of religious leaders has to play in the movement for children, and the importance of generations learning from each other and discovering unique leadership styles and opportunities. Spread the word and help us identify these emerging child advocates with demonstrated leadership skills and ability as exercised through both formal and informal roles in their community, campus, and religious organizations.
