Jose Ferdinand

Jose Ferdinand is a fourth year Ella Baker Trainer. He currently lives in Miami, where he was born to Haitian parents. This past December, he received his bachelor’s degree in Exceptional Student Education, becoming the first in his family to earn the degree. Ferdinand currently works as a special education math teacher at Coral Springs High School, and tutors foster children and at-risk youth with a tutoring company. He has served with the Children's Defense Fund since summer 2010, first as a Servant Leader Intern and then a Site Coordinator, but his passion for children started in 2008 when he worked at Nova Southeastern University with the Baudhuin Preschool for Autism, where he recognized the gap for special needs students in the education system. His desire to fill that gap led him to start an organization where parents, students and teachers can come together around academic, physical and nutritional improvements for children. He plans to pursue a Master of Education soon. Ferdinand has been happily married for four years and has a son.
