As Texas Youth Leadership Development Director, Brandi oversees the development and expansion of the CDF Freedom Schools® program in Texas. She also helps coordinate CDF's Beat the Odds scholarship program and CDF Young Advocates Leadership Training (YALT) opportunities.
Brandi joined CDF in 2008 as a Coordinator of the Katrina Citizens Leadership Corps engaging those displaced by Hurricane Katrina in advocacy around recovery.
Prior to joining CDF, Brandi had a long history of involvement with CDF's youth leadership programs. In 1997, while still a student at Southern Methodist University, she began working with CDF Freedom Schools in Dallas, first as an intern and later as a site coordinator. In 1999, Brandi moved back to Houston and in her role as an Ella Baker Trainer with CDF, established Houston's first CDF Freedom Schools site, Houston's Youth Program for Enrichment (H.Y.P.E.). Brandi co-founded and still directs Waymaker Life Strategies, Inc., the sponsoring organization for the H.Y.P.E. CDF Freedom Schools site.
For eight years Brandi worked as a coordinator for teen parents in the Houston Independent School District, and together with her husband, co-owned and operated a Smoothie King Franchise until very recently.
Brandi is a proud graduate of Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University. She and her husband are legal guardians of their 17 year old nephew.
