Congress has taken care of its unfinished business from the last Congress and passed legislation expanding the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that was signed into law by President Obama earlier this month. This will provide health coverage to about 4 million children and includes some improvements that advocates like you have been fighting for. Thank you to everyone who joined us in pushing for CHIP expansion over these past two years!
But this CHIP legislation is not the real health reform children deserve. 5-6 million children will still have no health coverage and millions more will remain underinsured. And these numbers could very well increase in this economic downturn.
President Obama ran on a campaign promise to provide health coverage for every child in America and we want to help President Obama make that promise a reality in 2009. As President and Congress take up health reform for everyone in America, we need your help to make sure that this reform includes a system that ensures every child access to coverage; a guaranteed, comprehensive benefit package; and a simplified system to get children enrolled and keep them enrolled.
Now is the time to build on the momentum of this CHIP passage and make sure your Members of Congress know that you want them to include children in any health care reform in 2009!
Join CDF and other child advocates today in pushing lawmakers for real health care reform that guarantees comprehensive, affordable, seamless health coverage for all children—and for everyone in America—in 2009. Step forward and take action to improve the lives of children and the lives of all of us. Send an email to your Members of Congress today!
