All 50 states and the District of Columbia have developed Early Learning Guidelines (ELGs) and Assessments- laying out what children aged 3 to 5 should be able to do and know when they enter kindergarten; however, most early childhood education providers are not required to use them- ELGs are voluntary and non-publicly funded programs
