Poverty Is a Real Threat to the Health of Many American Kids

The Children's Defense Fund writes that more than 16.1 million children in America are poor, and yet they live in working families. Poor kids lag behind their peers in many ways which goes beyond income: "They are less healthy, trail in emotional and intellectual development, and are less likely to graduate from high school."
