Black students singled out by LAUSD

Twenty-one-year-old former high school cheerleader and fledgling dance coach Amanie Pigford should be having the time of her life pursuing the artistic passion she truly loves. But that is hampered right now all because she was late for school four years ago — when, despite having a note from her mother, Pigford was given a truancy ticket by Reseda High School campus police. The outstanding $250 fine — increased from an original $180 — has prevented her from obtaining a driver’s license.
