AUSTIN, Feb. 17 - Advocates for children’s health descended on the capitol to raise their voices against a budget proposal that that Luisa Saenz of the Children’s Defense Fund-RGV calls, “very, very grim.” According to a study by the Center for Public Policy Priorities, House Bill 1 knocks 13 percent off of funding for children’s services. The study says one of the biggest losers will be children’s health care, which will shed $3.2 billion in state and federal funds, a 14 percent decrease from 2010-11 levels.
