Love of literacy is a the core of Freedom Schools

Cliff Wiltshire,’s executive editor, writes about visiting the CDF Freedom School site at Columbus’ Maynard Avenue United Methodist Church. “It was a place where joy and love were given freely, as was a sincere interest in getting everyone on board to learn.” He quotes April Blaine, co-pastor at Summit United Methodist Church and executive director of the University District Freedom School Program, as saying the program’s goal is “to foster a love of reading and to empower students to reach their full potential.”
