Freedom Schools keeps students of all ages during the summer

SC profiles the three three CDF Freedom Schools locations in Marlboro County, S.C. It's an educational program that focuses mainly on literacy, with the goal of helping students ages 4-18 with maintaining any progress they make during the school year straight through the summer, so they have a good start to each school year. "Children who live in low-income areas like Marlboro County, they suffer a lot of learning loss in comparison to children who are able to go on vacation," said Myah Woods, a rising senior elementary education major at Coastal Carolina University and a site coordinator at the Clio program, said it's critical in poorer, rural areas like Clio. "They have something to do and they lose less learning during the summer," she said.
