Across town at the East Cleveland Neighborhood Center and the Harvard Community Services Center, 100 children are dreamily singing the same song, "Something Inside So Strong." Crowds of kids in the Bronx, St. Louis, Charlotte and Los Angeles have the same morning ritual.
They're all enrolled in Freedom Schools, a six-week summer program created by the national Children's Defense Fund. Modeled after youth camps of the civil rights era, the program challenges young people to be independent thinkers and leaders.
