Main Street USA
Our health care system is broken and it's hurting Main Streets across our nation. Keeping Main Street healthy and strong is very important for our economy, but with health care costs skyrocketing, some small businesses have to cut workers' insurance just to stay competitive—affecting families and children from coast to coast. And for each uninsured person, we lose about $4,500 in economic activity. That’s more than $200 billion a year!
So, where's the hope for Main Street?
With America's children, of course! But with millions of families unable to afford quallity health coverage and millions of children without any coverage at all, things aren’t looking optimistic for Main Street without real reform.
Step Up and Take Action
Join in on the conversation about health care reform. Tomorrow (July 1) at 1:15 p.m. ET, President Obama will host an online town hall meeting and he wants to hear your questions! Watch President Obama's video and then post a short video in response to his. Here are a few suggested questions you could ask:
Mr. President, during your campaign you spoke of a mandate that covers every child in America. With nearly 9 million children still without health coverage, will you commit to ensuring that the health legislation you sign into law provides all children with quality, affordable, and comprehensive health and mental health services?
Mr. President, do you support national requirements for children’s health reform so that we can eliminate a 50-state lottery of geography and ensure that every child gets the same comprehensive benefits package, every child is eligible for coverage, and every child can get and stay enrolled easily?
Mr. President, in addition to the nearly 9 million children in America that are uninsured, millions more are underinsured – they don’t have coverage for vital mental and dental health care. Do you support health reform legislation that is comprehensive and covers a child from head to toe to maximize their health and development?
Mr. President, Americans want health reform to be a success, we will do everything we can to help make it a success and we thank you for tackling these difficult issues to bring relief to families. We have heard concerning news that some children may be moved into "Exchange" plans from the popular Medicaid and CHIP programs, which were just expanded by you to cover millions more children. Will you give us your word that you will not dissolve any existing coverage for children without first guaranteeing that there is a strong alternative in place for our kids?
After posting your video, tune in tomorrow to watch the online town hall at www.healthreform.gov and see if President Obama picked your question!
