Child Health Internships
The Child Health staff work to ensure that every child has a Healthy Start in life. The scope of our work includes health insurance, child nutrition, health disparities, and prenatal care. Our primary focus in 2009 is on health reform for all children, which must guarantee all children and pregnant women access to affordable and comprehensive health and mental health coverage.
Interns will contribute to policy analysis, advocacy, research, and coalition building around children's health reform. Additionally, interns prepare research briefs and fact sheets, analyze legislative and fiscal policies, monitor hearings and briefings on Capitol Hill and represent CDF at advocacy group meetings. Specific responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and summarizing new reports, articles, and legislation regarding children's health coverage, particularly CHIP, Medicaid, and the uninsured.
- Researching health disparities, child nutrition, immunization, asthma prevalence, and other topics related to maternal and child health as needed.
- Writing memos, completing literature reviews, drafting fact sheets, contributing to publications, and preparing materials for our website.
This work is ideal for students studying:
- Public Health
- Child and family studies
- Public policy or public administration
Strong consideration will be given to graduate and upper-level undergraduate students with some academic or demonstrated background in health policy, specifically some experience with Medicaid and CHIP. Strong research background and good writing ability needed.
