Registration
- $400 five-day registration fee covers all sessions, meals, and materials.
- Discounts: Valid only for five-day registrations. One discount per registrion.
- Early Bird Discount: Register by March 1, 2010, and receive $50 off.
- New Friend Discount: Send in your registration with the registration of a friend or colleague who is new to Proctor, and you both will receive $25 off your registration fees!
- $175 five-day registration fee for children ages 5-15 covers the CDF Freedom Schools® sessions offered Tues., Wed. and Thurs. from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., materials, and all meals offered Monday through Friday. Children must be pre-registered for the CDF Freedom Schools program; there will be no on-site registration for the CDF Freedom Schools program.
- $45 shuttle fee from McGhee Tyson Airport to Haley Farm. (Reserve your shuttle at the time you register. Travel itineraries must be received by June 30 for shuttle service.)
- One-day registrations are available for $85 per day and include all sessions, meals, and materials on selected date/s.
- One-day registrations for children ages 5-15 are available for $60 per day and include the CDF Freedom School sessions offered Tues., Wed. and Thurs. from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., materials, and meals on selected date/s.
- Only payment in full will be accepted.
- Hotel reservations are made by participants. Recommended hotels are listed below. Free shuttle service is provided each day between hotels and Haley Farm.
- Registration must be postmarked or faxed by June 30. Confirmation of registration will be sent within 10 days of receipt.

Cancellation policy: Cancellations submitted in writing, postmarked or faxed on or before June 18 will be refunded, less a $50 processing fee. Cancellations postmarked June 19-July 1 will be refunded $75. No refund of registration fee is possible for cancellations postmarked or faxed after July 1, 2010. Registrations may, however, be transferred to another name but not to another year.
Location & Travel
Scheduling
- Arrivals: The Proctor Institute begins on Monday, July 19, with registration starting at noon, orientation for first-time participants at 4:00 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m., and a welcoming address by CDF President Marian Wright Edelman and the opening of the Great Preachers Series at 7 p.m.
- When scheduling flights into McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville, Tennessee, allow at least one hour from your flight arrival to arrival at CDF Haley Farm (this allows for shuttle schedule and boarding time).
- Departures: The Proctor Institute will conclude on Friday, July 23, with an 8 a.m. breakfast followed by a 9 a.m. Call to Action by Marian Wright Edelman and a Communion Service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Allow at least two hours from your Farm departure until your flight's departure time (this includes shuttle schedule and the recommended hour for check-in.) Participants are strongly encouraged to schedule flights that will allow them to remain for the closing communion service. You won't want to miss this special culmination of the week.
Airlines & Shuttles
- You are encouraged to make your travel plans early as space may be limited. Book all flights to McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville, Tennessee. CDF provides round-trip airport shuttle service from McGhee Tyson Airport to CDF Haley Farm for a fee of $45, to be paid with your registration. Daily shuttle service from recommended hotels to CDF Haley Farm is free.
Housing
- Each participant is responsible for reserving and paying for hotel accommodations. The following is a list of hotels to assist you with your planning. Please call the hotel directly and indicate that you are a Proctor Institute participant. (Special rates are available for reservations confirmed by July 1, 2010.) Daily round-trip shuttle service to/from CDF Haley Farm will be provided. Listed below are recommended hotels for Proctor Institute participants:

- Pastoral Support: Pastoral support and leadership is provided throughout the Institute by the Rev. Dr. Frederick J. Streets and the Rev. Dr. William Gipson, Proctor Chaplains-in-Residence, and the Rev. Dr. Eileen W. Lindner, Proctor Theologian-in-Residence.
- CDF Freedom Schools Program for Children: This literacy-rich educational and recreational enrichment program for children ages 5-15 will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. To guarantee a slot in the CDF Freedom Schools program, children must be registered by June 2. Children must be pre-registered for the CDF Freedom Schools program; there will be no on-site registration for the CDF Freedom Schools program.
- Langston Hughes Library and Bookstore: Institute participants enjoy access to great African American literary works housed in the Langston Hughes Library. Book signings by authors speaking at the Institute are also scheduled.
- Children's Defense Fund publications, materials and t-shirts, as well as other fath-based child advocacy resources, will be for sale each day in the Bookstore and Publications Tent. Audiotapes and CDs of the Proctor Institute will also be available. Credit cards, cash or checks will be accepted.
- Attire: All meals and program sessions (except workshops) are held under a tent or in Riggio-Lynch Chapel at Haley Farm. Recommended dress is casual and appropriate for hot, humid weather. Please bring comfortable walking shoes and be prepared with rain gear and an umbrella.
- CDF Haley Farm is a smoke-free, drug- and alcohol-free, violence-free, hate-free and caring environment.
