And Deborah, a prophetess… she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah...and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. (Judges 4:4-5)
Moses and Miriam Generation
The journey to the Promised Land covered multiple generations. However, the older and wiser Moses and Miriam Generation did not enter the Promised Land, but prepared the emerging Joshua and Deborah Generation to enter it. As such, the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute allows the space for the Moses and Miriam Generation to continually prepare and engage the Joshua and Deborah Generation in the building of the Blessed Community.
New Leaders: Joshua & Deborah Generation
The New Leaders: Joshua and Deborah Generation of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute consist of the next generation of religious leaders prepared to continue the mission of building the blessed community through the vocations of ministry and child advocacy. Considered the "new leaders," the religious leaders of this generation are encouraged to continue the movement for children while implementing unique and genuine leadership styles just as Joshua led the Israelites to the Promised Land and Deborah later restored order in the land for the Israelites. This experience will allow the emerging religious leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue and exchange ideas with each other and with members of the Moses and Miriam Generation.
The new leaders of the Joshua and Deborah Generation:
- Embody the leadership characteristics of Joshua and Deborah
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to a religious community
- Are rising religious leaders
- Have demonstrated the potential to positively impact others in their communities
- Understand the significance of child advocacy and social justice
- Value intergenerational learning and teaching
- Indicate organizational and/or community support in satisfying financial obligations and covenant commitments

And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it. (Deuteronomy 31:7)
