Call Your Members of Congress
We know calls to Members of Congress can sometimes seem intimidating, but calls are highly effective in influencing your own Representative and Senators. By making this call, you can truly make a change for children. Plus, making a call really is simple and takes only a few minutes.
Step 1: Visit www.congressmerge.com to find out who your Members of Congress are and their direct phone numbers.
Step 2: When an office staffer answers the phone, tell them:
I am calling from [your city and state] because I believe that health reform should make children better—not worse—off. Health reform should ensure health coverage for all children that is:
- Comprehensive and provides all medically necessary health and mental health services.
- Simplified and streamlined to make it easy for children to get and stay enrolled.
- Affordable with cost sharing protections for children in families up to 300% of the federal poverty level that are the same as children with Medicaid get.
When calling your Representative, please add: The current House bill does not include these improvements. Millions of children could end up worse off after health reform. Amendments and agreements to the House bill by Representatives Bobby Scott and Bobby Rush will make children better off. Please support these improvements.
When calling your Senators, please add: None of the current bills or draft bills includes these improvements. As a result, millions of children could end up worse off after health reform. Please step up for children and make sure these improvements are included in any Senate health reform bill.
Step 3: Also make a call to the House Leadership, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ((202) 225-0100) and Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman ((202) 225-2927) with that same message.
