We invite you to join us for an urgent California/National summit, on February 25-26, 2009 in Sacramento, California, to share strategies and take action to dismantle the Cradle to Prison Pipeline and replace it with a Cradle to College Pipeline.

There is no more urgent concern for California or our nation. Driven by poverty and racial disparities, poor children and youth of color are being disproportionately tracked into dead end lives from birth with incarceration becoming the new American apartheid. At this transformative national moment in American history, with our first African American president, a new Congress, and many new state officials, there is no higher priority than creating a level playing field for every child. Unless we name and change this massive family, community, state, and national tragedy, the clock of racial, social and economic progress, achieved after so much sacrifice over the past 50 years, will turn backwards. This must stop on our watch. Working together, we can change this reality.

The summit will bring together over 400 key partners and individuals from California and across the country to focus on solutions, best practices and strategies that can be implemented in all communities and states to bring about needed systems and paradigm changes. The first day, February 25, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., is for youth only (age 18-24) with the full summit beginning that same day at 7:00 p.m and continuing through the February 26. View the preliminary agenda.

Please come only if you are prepared to act with urgency and persistence and to join your personal and organizational leadership resources, with others, to save our children's lives, futures and our nation's soul. View a list of planned participants.

Youth participants are expected to attend both days of the Summit. All other participants are expected to attend both the evening plenary on February 25 and all workshops on February 26.

Participants are responsible for making their own hotel and travel arrangements. Information on block rooms at nearby hotels is included during the registration process.
