Lauren Smith hails from Conyers, Georgia and is a rising sophomore at Georgetown University. She plans to pursue a double major in Government and Sociology along with a minor in Justice and Peace Studies. Interacting with, and advocating on behalf of, children has always been a passion of Lauren’s, and her work in elementary school classrooms, the juvenile court system, an elementary after school program she founded, has led her to find great purpose in improving the lives of children. The Children’s Defense Fund’s tireless efforts in policy and real world application are precisely what drew her to the organization. As an intern the CDF Freedom Schools® department she works directly with children, while also aiding in the everyday processes of a large-scale program. In the future she hopes to obtain a legal degree and become a juvenile attorney to champion for children in the courtroom and beyond.
