Abdu Kiyaga, originally from Bowie, Maryland, is a senior at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) where he concentrates in electronics engineering technology and servicing. At PGCC, Abdu works in several capacities that allow him to serve his community and assist those who have been marginalized by society. Abdu’s desire for the betterment of all children propelled him into his internship with the Communications team at the Children’s Defense Fund’s National Office in Washington, D.C. By interning with this team, he hopes to gain valuable and practical insight into ways to reach out to young people so that our nation’s underserved children can have a more equitable chance to succeed, especially in engineering. In the future, Abdu aspires to continue offering seminars and talks geared at empowering children as inventors in his community.
