Vera Kiefer

Vera Kiefer, originally from Baltimore, Maryland, is a sophomore majoring in criminal justice and public administration with a minor in biological anthropology at The George Washington University. Through her service with AmeriCorps DC last year, she discovered the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools® program and spent this previous summer as a CDF Freedom Schools Servant Leader Intern. Not a day went by where she was not overcome with awe, compassion, and respect for her fellow Servant Leader Interns and her scholars. Vera believes that until every young child in America, regardless of socioeconomic status, gender, race, ethnicity, or any other social condition, is given the opportunity they deserve to succeed and reach their full potential, that we will be suffering from a true domestic and democratic travesty. Vera’s ultimate career goal is to help alleviate the destructive cycles of poverty and violence in her hometown, Baltimore, through education and juvenile justice reform. Vera is honored to serve as a Communications Intern for the Children’s Defense Fund and to be given the opportunity to extend her experiences to a cause she holds very close to her heart.
