Terranie Sims

Terranie Sims, from Arlington, Texas, is a psychology major and speech-language pathology minor at Howard University, class of 2016. With experience serving as a teacher’s assistant, a summer academy instructor, and for the past two years a literacy mentor for young adults in Detroit, Michigan, Terranie has always been passionate about children.  Last year she participated in a research symposium where she explored the correlation between socioeconomic status and a special education diagnosis among elementary students. This year she will begin working on her honors thesis to study the effects of the Cradle to Prison Pipeline™ on our nation’s youth. Upon graduating, Terranie plans to attend graduate school to become a certified speech pathologist and to take the necessary steps to continue to grow and serve as a leader in education. With her passion for education and child advocacy, she is honored to be interning in the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools® Department this spring as well as in the upcoming summer term.
