Lacy McAlister

Lacy McAlister, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, is a senior at Washington and Lee University. She will graduate in the spring of 2014, with a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in poverty and human capability studies. Lacy spent most of her high school years volunteering with children at local preschools and summer camps, and has loved the opportunity to integrate that passion into her studies through the Shepherd Poverty Program at Washington and Lee. This has furthered her desire to become an advocate and strong voice for children, both in the United States and abroad. She has spent time working in small communities in Tanzania, Mexico, and El Salvador, and is hoping to focus on education issues and policy both internationally and in the U.S. in the future. As a CDF-National Office Freedom Schools intern, Lacy is excited to work with the dedicated Freedom Schools team on education and literacy issues for children across the country.
